Margarita

Method

Prep

1

Chill glass and prepare rim

Optional: Place the serving glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes to chill. If salting the rim, rub a lime wedge around the outer rim of the glass and dip the rim lightly into a small plate with coarse salt so it adheres. Set the glass aside.

Make the Skinny Margarita

2

Combine ingredients

Fill a cocktail shaker about halfway with ice. Add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz fresh grapefruit juice (if using), and 0.5 tsp agave nectar (start small — you can add more to taste). If you prefer a touch of orange liqueur for complexity, add 0.25 oz now.

3

Dilute if desired

If you prefer a slightly lighter mouthfeel, add 0.5 oz cold water or club soda to the shaker. This keeps the drink 'skinny' while softening strong edges.

4

Shake

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is cold and you see condensation. This both chills and slightly dilutes the cocktail to balance flavor.

5

Strain and serve

Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice. Double-strain the cocktail into the glass using a Hawthorne or fine mesh strainer to remove ice shards and pulp. If you salted the rim, be careful not to dip the glass into the shaker to avoid extra salt.

6

Garnish

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. Serve immediately.
