Cocktail
Juice the lime
Roll the lime on the counter while pressing to soften, then cut and juice to yield about 1 ounce (30 ml) of fresh lime juice. Strain if you prefer pulp-free juice.
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice, 0.75 oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec), and 0.5 oz agave syrup. Add about 1 cup of ice to the shaker.
Shake
Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold and frosted on the outside. This chills and dilutes the cocktail to the proper balance.
Strain and serve
If serving 'on the rocks': Fill the prepared glass with 1/2 cup fresh ice, double-strain (or single-strain) the cocktail from the shaker into the glass over the ice. If serving 'straight up': double-strain into the prepared chilled glass without ice. Garnish with the reserved lime wedge on the rim.
Adjust sweetness (optional)
Taste and, if desired, add another 1/4 oz agave syrup for a sweeter Margarita or add a splash more lime for brighter acidity. Stir gently if adjusted.
