Method

Cocktail

1

Prep and measure

Chill a rocks or coupe glass by filling it with ice and setting aside while you prepare the drink. Measure 2 oz Don Julio Blanco, 1 oz Cointreau, 0.5 oz agave syrup, and 1 oz fresh lime juice into a cocktail shaker.

2

Rim the glass

Dump the ice from the chilled glass. Run a lime wedge around the rim, then dip the rim into coarse salt (or salt/sugar blend) so it adheres evenly. Set the glass aside.

3

Shake

Add 6 ice cubes to the shaker containing the measured spirits, agave, and lime. Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is cold and slightly frosted.

4

Strain

Double-strain (using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer if available) the shaken margarita into the prepared glass over fresh ice if serving on the rocks, or without ice if serving up (coupe).

5

Optional float

If using, slowly float 0.25 oz Grand Marnier on top by pouring it over the back of a bar spoon so it rests as a thin layer on the surface for extra aroma and richness.

Garnish & Serve

6

Garnish the rim with the lime wheel or wedge placed on the glass edge. Serve immediately with a small cocktail napkin. Provide a straw only if requested.
