Foster Sauce
Bananas and Ice Cream
Method
Foster Sauce Preparation
Melt the Butter
In a large skillet, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat until it starts to foam.
Add Brown Sugar and Cinnamon
Stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon, mixing well until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is bubbling.
Incorporate Rum and Vanilla
Carefully add the dark rum and vanilla extract to the skillet. If desired, you can flambé the rum by igniting it with a long lighter, but this is optional.
Banana Preparation
Slice the Bananas
Peel the ripe bananas and slice them diagonally into ½ inch thick pieces.
Caramelize the Bananas
Add the sliced bananas to the skillet with the Foster sauce. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, gently stirring until the bananas are heated through and coated in the sauce.
Serving
Plate the Dish
Scoop the vanilla ice cream into bowls. Spoon the caramelized bananas and sauce over the ice cream.
Serve Immediately
Serve the Bananas Foster immediately while the sauce is warm and the ice cream is cold.
