Cocktail

1

Build and stir

Add 3 tablespoons (approximately 45 ml) of your local spirit whisky to a mixing glass. Pour in 1/2 tablespoon (approximately 7.5 ml) Cocchi Vermouth and add 3 dashes of Angostura bitters. If you prefer a slightly sweeter Old Fashioned, add 1/4 teaspoon simple syrup. Fill the mixing glass with enough cold large ice cubes to chill without over-diluting.

2

Stir to chill

Use a bar spoon to stir the mixture briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full spoon turns) until the liquid is well-chilled and slightly diluted — the sides of the glass should become cold and slightly frosted.

3

Prepare the glass

Place one large ice cube into an old fashioned (rocks) glass.

4

Strain and serve

Using a strainer, pour the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass over the large ice cube in the prepared old fashioned glass.

5

Garnish

Express the oils of an orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down above the glass and giving it a brisk squeeze to release the oils. Rub the peel around the rim of the glass, then drop the peel into the drink as garnish.

6

Taste and adjust: if the cocktail tastes too strong, add a few drops of water or additional ice and gently stir to bring it to your preferred balance.
