Cocktail
Method
Cocktail
- 1
Prepare glass
Chill a coupe or rocks glass by filling it with ice and cold water, or place it in the freezer for a few minutes. If you prefer the drink on the rocks, use a double old-fashioned glass and fill with fresh ice when ready.
- 2
Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker, add Aperol (1.5 oz), gin (1 oz), fresh lemon juice (0.75 oz), and simple syrup (0.5 oz). Fill the shaker with ice so there is enough to properly chill and dilute (about 3/4 full).
- 3
Shake
Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted. This both chills and dilutes the cocktail to the proper balance.
- 4
Strain
Discard the ice/water from your chilled serving glass (if you pre-chilled). Double strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or into a rocks glass over fresh ice using a Hawthorne and a fine mesh strainer to remove small shards of ice and any pulp.
- 5
Top (optional)
If you prefer a slightly lighter, more effervescent drink, gently top the cocktail with about 1 oz of soda water. Pour slowly to preserve carbonation.
