Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place a rocks glass (or lowball) in the freezer for a few minutes, or fill it with ice and water while you prepare the cocktail to chill it.

  2. 2

    Measure and combine

In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice, pour 2 oz aged rum, 1 oz sweet vermouth, 0.5 oz amaro, and 0.25 oz orange curaçao. Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

  3. 3

    Stir

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture for 25–30 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted (about 15–20 full rotations). Stirring preserves clarity and texture for spirit-forward cocktails.

  4. 4

    Prepare glass

Discard the chilling ice/water from your rocks glass and add 1–2 large ice cubes (or one large sphere).

  5. 5

    Strain and garnish

Strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared rocks glass over the ice. Express the oils of an orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down above the surface and giving it a firm squeeze, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the glass as garnish.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve immediately. The Moretti is a spirit-forward, slightly bitter-sweet sipper best enjoyed slowly.
