Dough Preparation

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.

Add Wet Ingredients
Add the melted butter and warm water into the dry ingredients. Mix until a soft dough forms.

Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 2-3 minutes until smooth. Cover with a cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
Frying Sopapillas

Heat Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Roll Out Dough
Divide the rested dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a thin circle about 1/8 inch thick.

Fry the Sopapillas
Carefully place one or two rolled-out circles in the hot oil. Fry for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until they puff up and turn golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
