Method
Shake Base
Prep strawberries
Wash, hull, and quarter the strawberries. If strawberries are very sweet and ripe, reduce sugar to 1 tsp; if underripe, keep the full 1 tablespoon.
Warm mash (optional)
For a smoother, more intensely flavored shake, place the quartered strawberries and sugar in a small bowl and let sit 5–10 minutes to macerate, or briefly microwave 10–12 seconds until slightly warm. Stir to dissolve sugar.
Blend
Add the macerated strawberries (including any juice), vanilla ice cream, whole milk, and vanilla extract to a blender. Secure lid and blend on medium-high for 30–45 seconds, or until smooth and evenly combined. If mixture is too thick, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time and pulse to reach desired consistency. If too thin, add a few more tablespoons of ice cream and pulse.
Taste and adjust
Taste the milkshake and adjust sweetness or flavor: add up to 1 teaspoon additional sugar or 1 teaspoon strawberry syrup for more fruit flavor, then pulse to combine.
Assembly & Garnish
Chill glasses (optional): For a colder presentation, chill serving glasses in the freezer for 10–15 minutes before pouring.
Pour shake: Divide the milkshake between two chilled glasses. Leave a little room at the top for whipped cream if using.
Garnish: Top each shake with a dollop of whipped cream, a drizzle of strawberry syrup, and a strawberry half on the rim. Sprinkle optional mini marshmallows or crushed cookies over the top if desired.
Serve
Serve immediately with a wide straw or long spoon to enjoy the creamy texture at its best.
