Milk Preparation

1

Chill and measure

Place a clean measuring cup and drinking glasses in the refrigerator for 5–10 minutes if you prefer very cold milk. Measure 4 cups of your chosen milk into a clean measuring cup or small pitcher.

2

Heat (optional) to warm milk

If you want warm milk, pour the measured milk into a small saucepan. Warm gently over low heat, stirring occasionally, until it reaches about 120–140°F (49–60°C) — warm but not boiling — about 5–8 minutes. Remove from heat. Do not let it boil.

3

Add flavoring (optional)

For lightly sweetened or flavored milk, stir in the optional sweetener (1 tsp sugar, honey, or maple syrup), the pinch of salt, and the vanilla extract (if using) until fully dissolved. If milk was heated, stir while warm so sweetener dissolves more easily.

4

Cool or serve

If you warmed the milk and want it cold, let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until chilled (30–60 minutes). Otherwise, pour the milk into chilled glasses and serve immediately. Store any unused milk in a sealed container in the refrigerator and use within 3–5 days (follow manufacturer's date on purchased milk).

5

Optional froth

If you want frothed milk for coffee or hot chocolate, after warming, use a milk frother, handheld whisk, or French press. Froth by pumping or whisking until foam forms (about 30–60 seconds), then pour and spoon foam on top of your drink.
