Sauce and seasoning
For toasting/pan
Method
Base sandwich
- 1
- 2
Melt cheese
During the last 30–60 seconds of cooking, place the slice of processed cheddar on the hot patty. If desired, cover the skillet briefly to help the cheese melt.
- 3
Sauce and seasoning
- 4
In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, and yellow mustard. Stir together until smooth. Season with salt and black pepper and adjust to taste. This creates a simple burger sauce to make the sandwich “Super.”
Optional toppings (Make it “Super”)
- 5
While the patty cooks, rinse and dry the lettuce, slice the tomato into 2 slices, thinly slice or dice the onion, and have the pickle slices ready. These toppings are optional but turn the basic sandwich into the “Make it Super” version.
- 6
Assemble: Spread half of the prepared sauce on the bottom bun. Place the cheesy patty on the bottom bun. Top the patty with pickles, tomato slices, shredded lettuce, and diced onion in that order or to your preference. Spread the remaining sauce on the top bun and place it over the toppings.
Serve
- 7
Press the sandwich gently together, cut in half if desired, and serve immediately while hot. Offer ketchup or extra sauce on the side.
