Prepare the Marinara Sauce

Add Tomatoes and Season
Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and let cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Finish the Sauce
Once the sauce has thickened slightly, remove from heat and set aside to cool.
Prepare the Calamari

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Coat the Calamari
Dip each calamari ring first in the wet mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then coat in the dry mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.

Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Arrange the fried calamari on a serving platter and serve hot with the marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
