Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare shaker

Add 6 ice cubes to a cocktail shaker to chill and slightly dilute the drink while shaking.

  2. 2

    Measure and combine

Pour 1.5 oz Grand Marnier, 1 oz cognac, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters into the shaker over the ice.

  3. 3

    Shake

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels cold and slightly frosted.

  4. 4

    Prepare glass

If serving on the rocks, add 3 ice cubes to an old-fashioned glass. If serving up, chill a coupe or cocktail glass by filling with ice water while you shake, then discard the ice water before straining.

  5. 5

    Strain

Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared glass (over ice if desired) using a Hawthorne and a fine mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and pulp.

Garnish & Finish

  1. 6

Express an orange twist over the drink by holding it skin-side down about 2–3 inches above the glass and giving it a firm twist to release the oils, then rub the rim with the twist and drop it into the drink. Optionally add a lemon twist for an extra bright aroma.

  2. 7

Serve immediately. Sip and enjoy the balance of orange, cognac warmth, citrus brightness, and gentle bitterness.
