Preparation
- 1
Muddle the Mint and Sugar
In a sturdy glass or cocktail shaker, add the fresh mint leaves and granulated sugar. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently press the mint leaves, releasing their oils and mixing with the sugar. Do not shred the leaves; just press gently.
- 2
Add Lime Juice and Rum
Pour in the fresh lime juice and Flor de Caña 4 rum over the muddled mint and sugar mixture. Stir gently to combine, ensuring the sugar begins to dissolve.
- 3
Add Ice
Fill the glass or shaker with ice cubes, packing them in to chill the mixture.
Mixing and Serving
- 4
Top with Champagne
Carefully pour the champagne over the ice and rum mixture, allowing it to mix gently. Be cautious to not overflow the glass.
- 5
Add Bitters
Add two dashes of bitters on top of the drink for added complexity and flavor.
- 6
Garnish and Serve
Garnish the drink with a fresh mint sprig for aroma and presentation. Serve immediately with a straw or stirring stick.
