Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined and smooth.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cake

Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Chocolate Ganache

  1. 7

    Heat the Cream

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it begins to simmer.

  2. 8

    Add Chocolate Chips

Remove from heat and add the semi-sweet chocolate chips, stirring until melted and smooth.

  3. 9

    Cool Ganache

Let the ganache cool at room temperature until it thickens slightly, about 10-15 minutes.

Assembly and Serving

  1. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cake is completely cool, pour the chocolate ganache over the top, spreading it evenly with a spatula.

  2. 11

    Add Toppings

If desired, sprinkle chopped nuts on top or serve with whipped cream and fresh berries.

  3. 12

    Slice and Serve

Cut the cake into squares and serve immediately or chill in the refrigerator for later.
