Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Combine ingredients

Add 1 oz Canvas Gin, 1 oz Campari, and 1 oz sweet vermouth into a mixing glass or short stirring glass.

  2. 2

    Add ice

Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes until nearly full to properly chill and dilute the drink.

  3. 3

    Stir

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture steadily for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full turns) until the exterior of the glass feels very cold. Aim for gentle, even stirring to properly chill and achieve slight dilution without aeration.

  4. 4

    Prepare serving glass

Place 2–3 large ice cubes into an old fashioned (rocks) glass.

  5. 5

    Strain

Using a strainer if needed, pour the stirred cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared rocks glass over the ice.

  6. 6

    Garnish

Express the oils from a fresh orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down about 2–3 inches above the glass and giving it a quick twist so the oils spray onto the surface. Rim the glass with the peel, then drop the peel into the drink as garnish.

  7. 7

Serve immediately and enjoy. Optional: for a slightly colder presentation, chill the serving glass in the freezer for a few minutes before preparing the cocktail.

Tools / Notes

  1. 8

If you don't have Canvas Gin, substitute another good-quality London Dry gin. Adjust gin, Campari, or vermouth in 1/4 oz increments to taste if you prefer a drier or more bitter profile.

  2. 9

To make multiple servings, multiply ingredient quantities by number of cocktails and stir in a larger mixing vessel; serve individually over fresh ice.
