How to apply the Free (3 years & under) policy
Confirm eligibility
Ask the accompanying adult the child's age. Verify that the child is 3 years old or younger. If the restaurant requires proof of age, politely request an ID or other documentation from the adult. Note: many establishments accept verbal confirmation unless proof is requested.
Seat the child
Provide a suitable seat, booster, or highchair if needed and available. Ensure the seating is safe and comfortable for the child.
Inform the adult which items are included under the 'free' policy (for example, a limited kids' meal, side, or drink). If the child will receive a standard kids' meal, confirm any preferences or dietary restrictions with the adult.
Process order
Enter the child's meal as a free item in the point-of-sale system according to the restaurant's procedure. Make sure the free item is applied only once per eligible child and that it is linked to the paying adult's table or bill. If there are add-ons or upgrades, inform the adult that those may be charged.
Deliver and follow up
Serve the meal or item to the child, bringing appropriate utensils and condiments. Check back to ensure the child is satisfied and to address any needs, such as additional napkins, drink refills, or a different item if the child can't eat the provided selection.
Handle exceptions
If there is any dispute about eligibility, politely escalate to a manager. If the child is older than 3, explain the age policy and any applicable charges. If proof of age is unavailable but requested, offer alternatives such as checking the reservation or asking for a different valid form of ID.
