Method
Prepare Glass
Salt the rim
Pour the coarse sea salt onto a small plate. Moisten the outer lip of a large old-fashioned or rocks glass with a lemon wedge (use a light swipe). Turn the glass upside down and press the outer rim into the salt to deposit a medium line of salt around the rim. Set the glass aside.
Build & Chill
Add bourbon, dry vermouth, orange liqueur, fresh lemon juice, rich simple syrup, and Angostura bitters into a mixing glass filled with plenty of ice.
Stir the mixture briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full revolutions) until well chilled and slightly diluted. This produces a neutral finish and integrates the vermouth and citrus with the bourbon while keeping the drink clear.
Finish & Serve
Strain the chilled cocktail into the prepared large old-fashioned glass over a single large ice cube.
Express the oils from the orange twist over the surface by holding it skin-side down and giving it a quick snap, then run the twist around the glass rim (outer salted edge) and drop it into the drink as garnish.
Serve immediately. The salted rim provides a medium salt presence that balances the spirit and citrus, while the stirring and single large cube preserve a neutral, smooth finish.
