Burger Patties & Seasoning
Form patties
Divide the ground beef into four equal portions (about 4 oz each). Gently form each portion into a loose patty about 3.5-4 inches in diameter and roughly 1/2 inch thick, pressing a shallow dimple in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly. Do not overwork the meat.
Season both sides of each patty evenly with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. If using, brush or mix about 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce into the patties or lightly on the surface before cooking for extra flavor.
Buns & Cheese
When burgers are nearly done (see cooking step), place one slice of cheese on each patty and cover the pan briefly or lower the heat for 30–60 seconds to melt the cheese.
Cooking & Finishing
Cook the patties
Add 1 tablespoon neutral oil to the hot skillet and swirl to coat. Place patties in the skillet, leaving space between them. Cook undisturbed 3–4 minutes until a brown crust forms. Flip and cook another 2–3 minutes for medium (adjust time for desired doneness).
After flipping and during the last 30–60 seconds of cooking, add a slice of cheese to each patty and cover with a lid or tent with foil to melt. Remove patties and rest for 1–2 minutes.
Produce & Toppings
While patties cook, slice the tomato into 1/4-inch thick slices. Peel and thinly slice half a red or white onion into rings. Separate and dry 4 lettuce leaves. Have 2 pickle slices per burger ready.
Condiments & Assembly
Spread about 1 tablespoon mayonnaise on the top bun and 1 tablespoon ketchup and 1/2 tablespoon mustard on the bottom bun (adjust to taste).
To assemble each 10 Mile Burger: place the dressed bottom bun on a plate, add a lettuce leaf, a cheese-topped patty, a tomato slice, a few onion rings, and two pickle slices. Cap with the mayo-spread top bun.
Serve immediately while hot with desired sides.
