Preparation

Latte Base

1. Brew espresso

Brew two shots (about 2 fl oz total) of espresso using an espresso machine or a strong stovetop espresso maker. Pour the espresso into a pre-warmed 10–12 fl oz serving glass or mug.

2. Steam and froth milk

Pour 8 fl oz of whole milk into a stainless-steel steaming pitcher. Purge the steam wand, then submerge the tip just below the surface and introduce air for 2–3 seconds to create microfoam. Continue steaming until milk reaches 150–155°F (65–68°C) and has velvety microfoam. If you don't have a steam wand, heat milk on the stove to 150°F (warm but not boiling) and froth vigorously with a handheld frother.

3. Combine with Baileys

Add 1.5 fl oz Baileys Irish Cream to the brewed espresso in the serving glass. If you prefer sweeter, stir in 1 tsp granulated sugar until dissolved.

4. Slowly pour the steamed milk into the espresso + Baileys mixture, holding back the foam with a spoon, then spoon the remaining microfoam on top. Aim for a total drink volume of about 10–12 fl oz with a 1/2–1 inch foam layer.

Garnish (optional)

5. Top with 2 tablespoons of whipped cream if desired. Lightly dust the surface with cocoa powder or ground nutmeg (about 1 tsp) for aroma and presentation.

6. Serve immediately with a small spoon. Note: Drink contains alcohol; serve only to those of legal drinking age.
