1. Chill glass
Place a rocks glass or old-fashioned glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink to chill.
2. Combine ingredients
In a cocktail shaker add 2 oz Amaretto Disaronno, 1 oz bourbon, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.
3. Add ice and shake
Add 6 ice cubes to the shaker. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the shaker is cold to the touch and the mixture is well-chilled and slightly diluted.
4. Prepare glass
If you chilled the glass in the freezer, remove it now. If you used ice water, discard the ice water and dry the glass.
5. Strain
Strain the cocktail over a large ice cube or fresh ice in the chilled rocks glass using a Hawthorne or fine strainer to catch small shards.
Garnish & Serve
6. Express the orange twist over the drink by holding it skin-side down and giving it a quick twist to release the oils, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the glass.
7. Skewer or drop a Luxardo cherry into the drink. Serve immediately.
