Prepare the Teriyaki Sauce

In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, sugar, ginger, and garlic. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Cook for an additional 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in sesame oil. Allow to cool.

Marinate the Salmon

Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish and pour half of the teriyaki sauce over them. Cover and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Grill the Salmon

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Remove salmon from the marinade and discard the marinade. Grill the salmon for about 4-6 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and flaky.

Serve

Transfer the grilled salmon to plates, drizzle with the remaining teriyaki sauce, and garnish with chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds. Serve hot.
