Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Build & Stir

Add 2 oz bourbon, 0.5 oz Cynar, 0.25 oz maraschino liqueur, and 2 dashes orange bitters into a mixing glass.

  2. 2

If you prefer a slightly sweeter, smoother finish, add 1 tsp simple syrup (optional).

  3. 3

Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice and stir briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 30–40 full rotations) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted — the glass should feel very cold to the touch.

  4. 4

Prepare a rocks glass with a single large ice cube or a good amount of fresh ice.

  5. 5

Strain the stirred cocktail over the ice into the prepared rocks glass using a julep or hawthorne strainer to catch small ice shards.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 6

Express an orange twist over the drink: hold the twist skin-side down above the glass and give it a firm squeeze to spray oils across the surface, then rub the rim with the twist and drop it into the drink.

  2. 7

Finish by dropping a maraschino (Luxardo) cherry into the glass or garnish on a pick alongside the twist.

  3. 8

Serve immediately on the HAPPY HOUR menu; recommend tasting note: bittersweet, herbaceous artichoke/amaro notes from Cynar balanced by warm bourbon and a bright maraschino/orange lift.
