Choose blend
Decide whether you want regular or decaf. This recipe lists both; prepare one or both separately using the same steps, keeping beans distinct to avoid cross-contamination of caffeine.
Weigh beans
Measure 25 g of whole coffee beans per 375 ml of water. This yields a medium-strength cup (approx. 2–3 standard 8 oz servings total). Adjust ratio to taste (common range 15–18 g per 250 ml).
Grind beans
Grind the measured beans to a medium grind suitable for drip machines (similar to granulated sugar). Grind immediately before brewing for best freshness.
Prepare water
Use 375 ml of fresh, filtered water. If your drip machine heats water internally, pour water into the reservoir. If using a pour-over-style drip maker that requires hot water, heat to 90–96°C (195–205°F) and pour when ready.
Set up filter and coffee
Place a paper filter (or permanent filter) in the machine’s basket. Add the ground coffee and level the bed gently so grounds are even.
Brew
Start the drip cycle. For automatic machines, press brew and allow the machine to complete its cycle (typically 4–6 minutes for this volume). For manual pour-over, pour slowly in a steady spiral to wet all grounds, pause 30 seconds for bloom, then continue pouring until 375 ml has passed through (total brew time ~3–4 minutes).
Serve
Once brewing is complete, remove the carafe from the hotplate to avoid overheating. Pour into cups immediately. If brewing both regular and decaf, label or place separately.
Equipment & additions
Filter handling: If using paper filters, rinse briefly with hot water before adding grounds to remove papery taste and preheat the carafe. Discard rinse water before brewing.
Cleaning: After brewing, discard used grounds and clean the basket and carafe. Rinse equipment to preserve flavor for the next brew.
Storage: Store remaining beans in an airtight container in a cool, dark place and grind only what you need for the next brew.
