Baking Instructions
Prepare the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter and water. Mix until the starter is dissolved.
Add Flour and Salt
Add the all-purpose flour and salt to the water mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon or your hands until a shaggy dough forms.
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 10-15 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
First Rise
Place the kneaded dough into a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let it rise at room temperature for 4-6 hours, or until doubled in size.
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, gently deflate it and transfer it to a floured surface. Shape it into a round loaf by folding the edges towards the center.
Second Rise
Place the shaped dough into a floured proofing basket (banneton) or bowl. Cover and let it rise for another 2-3 hours.
Preheat the Oven
While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 230°C (450°F) with a Dutch oven inside for at least 30 minutes.
Bake the Bread
Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven from the oven. Gently flip the dough onto a piece of parchment paper, then lift it into the Dutch oven. Cover and bake for 30 minutes.
Uncover and Finish Baking
After 30 minutes, remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and crisp.
Cool the Bread
Once baked, remove the bread from the Dutch oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 1 hour before slicing.
