Wine Preparation

1. Inspect and chill

Check the bottle for any damage or cork issues. Chill the bottle to the optimal serving temperature for Pinot Noir, about 55-60°F (13-16°C). If the bottle is at room temperature, place it in the refrigerator for 20–40 minutes, or in an ice bucket with a 2:1 ratio of ice to water for 10–15 minutes until it reaches the target temperature.

2. Open the bottle

Use a waiter’s corkscrew or wine opener. Cut the foil beneath the lip, remove the foil, center the screw on the cork and insert fully, then pull steadily to remove the cork. Wipe the bottle rim with a clean napkin to remove any cork residue.

3. Decanting (optional)

For a young 2024 Pinot Noir, decanting for 20–30 minutes can open up aromas and soften any primary tannins. Pour the wine slowly into a decanter, watching for sediment (unlikely in a young wine). If you prefer brighter, more primary fruit, skip decanting and serve directly from the bottle.

4. Glassware and serving

Use Burgundy-style glasses (large bowl, narrower rim) to concentrate aromas. Pour 4–5 oz (120–150 ml) per glass, filling to the widest part of the bowl to allow swirling. Leave space in the glass for aromas to develop.

5. Tasting and pairing notes

Before sipping, swirl gently, sniff to identify aromas (red cherry, cranberry, earth, spice), then take a small sip and let it coat your palate. Serve with light to medium dishes such as roast chicken, salmon, mushroom risotto, charcuterie with soft cheeses, or simply enjoy on its own. Offer water to cleanse the palate between tastings.

6. Storage of leftover wine

Re-cork the bottle (use the original cork or a silicone stopper) and refrigerate upright. Consume within 2–4 days for best quality; Pinot Noir may lose vibrancy after several days.

Serving Accoutrements

7. Arrange clean wine glasses on the table. If using a decanter, place it near the host for easy pouring.

8. Provide a small carafe of filtered water and clean water glasses for palate cleansing between sips or courses.
