Smoothie Base

Method

Smoothie Base

1

Prepare fruit

If using fresh Saskatoon berries, rinse and pat dry. If using frozen, measure directly from the freezer. Peel and roughly chop the banana.

2

Combine ingredients

Add the frozen Saskatoon berries, chopped banana, Greek yogurt, milk, honey or maple syrup, and fresh lemon juice to a blender.

3

Blend until smooth

Secure the blender lid and blend on high for 45–60 seconds, or until the mixture is completely smooth and homogenous. Stop and scrape down the sides with a spatula if needed, then continue blending.

Optional Boosters & Garnish

4

Add boosters

If using, add ground flaxseed or chia seeds, and vanilla extract to the blender. For a colder, thicker smoothie add the ice cubes. Blend an additional 15–20 seconds until seeds are incorporated and ice is crushed to your liking.

5

Taste and adjust

Taste the smoothie and add more sweetener (honey/maple) or a splash more milk to adjust sweetness and consistency. If the smoothie is too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons of milk and blend briefly.

6

Serve

Pour the smoothie into two glasses. Garnish each with a tablespoon of fresh Saskatoon berries (or berries of choice) and a mint leaf if using. Serve immediately.
