1

Prepare ingredients

Measure out rye whiskey, maple syrup, fresh lemon juice and orange curaçao. Chill a coupe or Nick & Nora glass (or rocks glass) by filling it with ice or placing it in the freezer for a few minutes.

2

Combine and shake

Add rye whiskey (2 oz), maple syrup (0.5 oz), fresh lemon juice (0.75 oz), orange curaçao (0.25 oz), and 2 dashes Angostura bitters into a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with the indicated shaking ice (about 1 cup).

3

Shake vigorously

Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold and the liquid is well aerated and slightly frothy from the citrus.

4

Double strain and serve

Discard the ice from the chilled serving glass. Using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine-mesh (or second) strainer, double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe (alternatively into a rocks glass over fresh ice if preferred). If serving on the rocks, use the 0.5 cup of serving ice.

5

Garnish

Express the lemon peel over the drink by holding it over the glass and giving it a firm twist to release the oils, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink as garnish.

6

Serve

Serve immediately. The Canadiano is a balanced, slightly sweet citrus-rye cocktail with maple complexity and a hint of orange from the curaçao.
