Method
Cocktail
Measure and combine
Add vodka (2 oz), freshly squeezed lime juice (0.75 oz), white grapefruit cordial (0.5 oz), dry vermouth (0.25 oz), agave or simple syrup (0.25 oz), and 2 dashes of orange bitters into a cocktail shaker.
Add ice and shake
Fill the shaker roughly two-thirds full with ice. Cap and shake vigorously for 12–16 seconds, until the shaker is very cold and the exterior is frosted. This dilutes and chills the cocktail to the proper strength.
Double strain
Discard ice or water from the chilled glass. Using a hawthorne strainer and a fine-mesh strainer (or just the fine strainer), pour the cocktail into the chilled coupe to remove small ice shards and any pulp.
Garnish & Finish
Finish and serve
Express the oils of a grapefruit peel over the surface of the cocktail by holding it skin-side down and giving it a quick twist about 2–3 inches from the drink. Optionally, rub the rim lightly with the peel and drop the twist into the drink. If you like a saline accent, add a single fine pinch of sea salt on top and gently swirl once.
Tools & Ice
Use the cocktail shaker, jigger, and fine strainer as noted above. Use fresh ice for shaking; keep the glass chilled until just before serving.
