Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink to ensure the glass is well chilled.

2

Combine ingredients

Add the Grey Goose vodka (2 oz), dry vermouth (0.5 oz), and ice (6 cubes) to a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled about two-thirds with ice.

3

Stir until cold

Stir the mixture briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full strokes) with a bar spoon until the outside of the mixing glass feels very cold and the liquid is well chilled and slightly diluted.

4

Strain

Discard the ice or water from the chilled serving glass. Use a julep or Hawthorne strainer to strain the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass into the chilled coupe or martini glass.

5

Garnish and serve

Express an orange twist (or lemon twist) over the surface of the drink by holding it skin-side down and giving it a quick twist to release the oils, then run the peel around the rim and drop it into the glass (or place an olive on a cocktail pick if preferred). Serve immediately.

Optional garnish

6

For a brighter citrus note, use the lemon twist instead of the orange. For a savory, classic Martini variation, garnish with the olive on a pick and omit the citrus twist.
