Glass Prep (optional)
Salt rim (optional)
If you prefer a salted rim, rub the lime or lemon wedge around the outer edge of a chilled martini or coupe glass, then dip the rim lightly into the coarse sea salt. Set the glass aside in the freezer or fill with ice water to keep chilled while you mix the cocktail.
Martini
Build and chill the drink: Fill a mixing glass or cocktail shaker with the ice cubes. Pour in 2.5 oz Absolut vodka, 0.5 oz dry vermouth, and 0.75 oz pickle brine. The pickle brine quantity can be adjusted ±0.25 oz to taste (more for a 'dirtier' martini).
Stir: Stir the mixture for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full strokes) with a bar spoon until well chilled and properly diluted. Use stirring rather than shaking to keep a clearer appearance and silkier texture; shake only if you prefer a cloudier, more vigorously chilled drink.
Strain: Discard ice or water from the chilled glass. Using a julep or Hawthorne strainer, double-strain the cocktail into the chilled martini or coupe glass to remove small ice shards.
Garnish & Serve
Garnish: Skewer two pitted gordal olives on a cocktail pick and rest them across or drop them into the glass. Optionally add a thin slice of the pickle on the side or on the pick for extra brine aroma.
Serve: Present immediately while cold. Tasting note: The dry vermouth provides structure, the vodka is the base, and the pickle brine adds briny, savory saltiness — adjust brine to taste for 'dirty' level.
