Sandwich Ingredients

Method

Prepare Bread & Sausage

  1. 1

    Toast and warm

Split the English muffin (or roll) and lightly toast both cut sides until golden and warm (about 1–2 minutes in a toaster or under broiler). Spread 1 tsp butter or mayonnaise on the cut sides while warm if using.

  2. 2

If your sausage patties are precooked and refrigerated, warm them in a medium skillet over medium heat for about 2 minutes per side until heated through. If uncooked raw sausage patties, cook over medium heat 3–4 minutes per side until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C). Transfer to a plate and keep warm.

Cook Egg

  1. 3

    Pan-fried round egg (restaurant style)

Heat a small nonstick skillet over medium-low and add a thin smear of butter (about 1/2 tsp). Crack the egg into a small bowl to check for shells. Pour the egg into the skillet. Use the back of a spoon to gently spread the white into a compact round if desired. Season the egg with 1/4 tsp salt and 1/8–1/4 tsp pepper. Cover the pan with a lid and cook 2–3 minutes until the white is set and the yolk reaches your desired doneness (about 2 minutes for runny yolk, 3 for slightly set).

  2. 4

    Folded/pressed egg (alternative)

For a firmer, sandwich-ready egg, whisk the egg with 1 tsp water in a bowl, pour into a small nonstick skillet over medium heat, let set for 30–45 seconds, then fold or roll the cooked egg with a spatula into an approximate round shape. Season with salt and pepper.

  3. 5

If using hot sauce or sliced green onion, stir them into the egg in the final 10–15 seconds of cooking or scatter on top just after removing from heat.

Assemble Sandwich

  1. 6

Place the bottom half of the toasted muffin on a plate. Put the warm sausage patties on the muffin bottom stacked or side-by-side depending on size.

  2. 7

Place the cooked egg directly on top of the sausage.

  3. 8

Top the egg with one slice of cheddar cheese. If you want the cheese melted, return the stacked bottom half (sausage + egg + cheese) briefly to the warm skillet for 20–30 seconds covered, or microwave for 10–15 seconds until the cheese softens.

  4. 9

Add optional green onion or a drizzle of hot sauce if using.

  5. 10

Cap with the toasted top half of the muffin and press gently. Serve immediately.
