Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Build & stir

Place a mixing glass or stirring vessel on the counter. Add plenty of ice (large cubes or a single large cube/ sphere) to the mixing glass to properly chill and dilute. Pour in 1 oz Hendrick's Gin, 1 oz sweet vermouth (Carpano Antica recommended), and 1 oz Campari.

  2. 2

    Stir to chill and dilute

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture for 25–30 seconds (about 20–30 full revolutions) until well-chilled and slightly diluted. Aim for a silky, slightly viscous texture and a temperature near 0–4°C (32–39°F).

  3. 3

    Strain

Prepare an old-fashioned glass (or rocks glass) with a large ice cube or sphere. Double-strain the stirred cocktail into the glass using a julep or Hawthorne strainer (a single fine-strain isn't necessary unless you used crushed ice).

  4. 4

    Garnish & finish

Express the oils from an orange twist over the surface of the drink by holding the twist over the glass and giving it a firm squeeze so oils spray onto the cocktail, then run the peel around the rim and drop it into the glass as garnish. Serve immediately.
