Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

If you prefer the cocktail slightly chilled without dilution from built ice, place a rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice and water while you mix the drink.

  2. 2

    Measure and combine

In a cocktail shaker, add 1.5 oz Luxardo Amaretto, 1 oz bourbon (or dark rum if you prefer a richer molasses note), 0.5 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice, 0.25 oz simple syrup, 0.25 oz Luxardo Maraschino liqueur and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

  3. 3

    Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup), cap it, and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels cold and slightly frosted. The shaking chills and dilutes the mix to balance sweetness and acidity.

  4. 4

    Strain

Discard the ice/water from the chilled glass if you used that method. Double-strain the cocktail (use a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer) into the chilled rocks glass over one large clear ice cube or a few fresh ice cubes.

  5. 5

    Garnish and serve

Express a lemon twist over the drink to release oils, rub it around the rim, and drop it into the glass. Add a Luxardo or brandied cherry on a pick. Serve immediately.
