Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass (optional)

Place a coupe or rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink to chill it.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz Licor 43, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and a generous scoop of ice (about 1 cup).

  3. 3

    Shake

Shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the shaker is cold and the outside is frosty. This both chills and slightly dilutes the liqueur, balancing sweetness and brightness.

  4. 4

    Strain

Discard ice/water from the chilled glass if used. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or a rocks glass over fresh ice (or serve straight up without ice), using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to catch any small pulp or ice shards.

Garnish

  1. 5

Express the oils of a lemon twist over the drink by holding the twist skin-side down above the glass and giving it a quick squeeze to release the citrus oils onto the surface. Rub the twist around the rim and drop it into the cocktail.

  2. 6

Optional: lightly dust the surface with a tiny pinch (about 1/4 tsp) of ground or smoked cinnamon for a warm aromatic note that complements the vanilla and spice of Licor 43.
