Method

Prepare Coffee

1

Grind whole bean coffee to a medium-fine grind and brew about 6 oz of strong coffee using your preferred method (drip, pour-over, or French press). Aim for a bold, hot coffee around 200°F (93°C).

2

Preheat the serving glass by rinsing with hot water, then discard the water. This keeps the cocktail hot longer.

Build the Drink

3

Place the warmed Irish coffee glass on a stable surface. Add 1 tsp packed brown sugar to the bottom of the glass.

4

Pour 1.5 oz Jameson Irish whiskey over the brown sugar.

5

Carefully pour the 6 oz hot brewed coffee into the glass, leaving about 1/2 inch (approx. 1 tbsp) of headroom for the cream. Stir gently until the sugar dissolves fully into the hot coffee and whiskey mixture.

Whipped Cream & Finish

6

Make Light Whipped Cream

In a chilled small bowl, whisk 2 tbsp chilled heavy cream with 1 tsp granulated sugar just until soft peaks form. The cream should be pourable but hold a loose peak—do not overwhip.

7

Using the back of a warm spoon held just above the coffee surface, gently pour or spoon the whipped cream over the back of the spoon so it floats on top of the coffee in a distinct layer.

8

Optionally grate a little fresh nutmeg or dust with cocoa powder on top for aroma and garnish.

9

Serve immediately. Instruct guests to sip the hot coffee through the cream layer to experience the contrast of hot sweet coffee and cool cream.
