Canned Cola Preparation

Method

Canned Cola Preparation

1

Chill the can

Ensure the can of Coca-Cola has been refrigerated for at least 1–2 hours before serving. A well-chilled can (around 3–7°C or 38–45°F) tastes best and reduces rapid dilution when poured over ice.

2

Prepare glass and ice

Place 6 ice cubes into your highball or Collins glass. If you prefer less dilution, use fewer cubes or large ice cubes.

3

Open the chilled can of Coca-Cola immediately before pouring to preserve carbonation. Hold the can steady and slowly tilt it toward the inside of the glass.

4

Pour the Coca-Cola gently down the side of the glass (rather than directly onto the ice) to retain more carbonation and minimize foaming. Stop pouring when the liquid reaches about 1 cm (1/2 inch) below the rim.

5

Garnish

Run the cut edge of the lime wedge around the glass rim, then drop the wedge into the drink or place it on the rim. Add the maraschino cherry and/or mint sprig if using. Insert a straw or long spoon for stirring if desired.

6

Taste and adjust: if you prefer a tarter profile, squeeze the lime wedge into the drink before dropping it in. If you want a sweeter or cocktail-like treat, add the cherry syrup from a maraschino cherry (about 1/2 tsp) and stir gently.

7

Serve immediately to enjoy maximum fizziness and optimal temperature.

8

When using a highball or Collins glass, pre-chill the glass in the freezer for 10–15 minutes if you want a colder presentation. Be sure the glass is dry before adding ice to avoid excessive cracking or slippage.

9

Use a long spoon to stir gently if additives (lime juice or cherry syrup) were added, taking care not to over-agitate the cola to preserve carbonation.
