Base & Citrus

Method

Prepare Glass

1

Optional sugared rim

If you want a sugared rim, rub a lemon wedge around the edge of a chilled coupe or martini glass, then dip the rim into a shallow plate of coarse sugar. Set the glass aside in the freezer or at room temperature while you build the cocktail.

Build & Shake

2

Add 2 oz cognac (or brandy), 1 oz Cointreau, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz elderflower liqueur, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and 1/4 tsp freshly grated ginger into a cocktail shaker.

3

Fill the shaker with ice (enough to three-quarters fill).

4

Shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the shaker is very cold and you feel condensation on the outside.

Strain & Finish

5

Double-strain the cocktail into the prepared chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to catch the grated ginger and any ice shards.

6

Express the oils from a lemon twist over the drink by holding the twist over the glass and giving it a quick squeeze, then drop or rest the twist on the rim as garnish.

7

Serve immediately. Enjoy the bright, floral summer twist on a classic Sidecar.
