Method

Cocktail

1

Build and chill

Fill a highball or copper mule mug with cubed ice to chill the vessel for 30 seconds, then discard excess water if any.

2

Combine ingredients

Add 2 oz rye whiskey (or bourbon) and 0.25 oz maple syrup into the chilled mug. Pour in 0.5 oz freshly squeezed lime juice and add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters.

3

Top with ginger beer

Gently pour 4 oz chilled ginger beer over the other ingredients. Stir gently once or twice with a bar spoon to integrate the maple syrup and lime without losing carbonation.

4

Final taste and adjust

Taste briefly. If you prefer brighter acidity, add an extra 0.25 oz lime juice. For more sweetness, add up to 0.25 oz more maple syrup. Stir lightly after adjustments.

Garnish & Serve

5

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim and slap a mint sprig between your palms to release aroma then tuck it into the drink. Serve immediately with a straw or stirrer.
