Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink to chill the glass.

2

Measure ingredients

Using a jigger, measure 2 oz vodka, 1 oz triple sec (Cointreau), 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz cranberry juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup (optional for added sweetness).

3

Add to shaker

Fill the cocktail shaker with about 1 cup of ice. Pour the measured vodka, triple sec, lime juice, cranberry juice, and simple syrup into the shaker over the ice.

4

Shake

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels very cold and slightly frosted. This chills and dilutes the drink to the correct balance.

5

Prepare glass

If you used ice water to chill the glass, empty and dry it now. Optionally, run an orange twist or lime peel around the rim for a touch of aromatics.

6

Strain and serve

Strain the cocktail through the shaker's strainer into the chilled martini or coupe glass. If you prefer, serve over fresh ice in a rocks glass (use 1/2 cup serving ice).

7

Garnish

Express an orange twist over the drink to release oils (or squeeze a lime wheel), then drop the twist or wheel into the glass as a garnish.

8

Enjoy

Serve immediately while cold.

Equipment

9

Use the jigger to measure accurately, the citrus squeezer to extract fresh lime juice, and a strainer when pouring from the shaker if necessary.
