Beet & Citrus Base

Method

Prepare Produce

1

Wash and prep

Thoroughly wash beets and ginger under cold running water. Peel the beets and chop into 1-inch cubes to ease blending. Peel ginger and roughly chop. Halve the lemon and juice it until you have about 60 ml of fresh lemon juice.

2

Prepare aloe vera gel: if using a fresh leaf, slice lengthwise, scoop out the clear inner gel with a spoon, then rinse gel briefly to remove residual yellow latex. Strain the gel through a fine mesh to remove fibrous pieces and measure 30 ml.

Blend & Extract

3

Initial blending

Place the chopped beets, chopped ginger (25 g), 60 ml filtered water, and 60 ml fresh lemon juice into a high-speed blender. Blend on high for 45–60 seconds until smooth and homogenous. If your blender struggles, pulse and scrape down sides, adding up to 60 ml more water a little at a time.

4

Strain (for a smooth shot)

Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh sieve or nut milk bag into a bowl or measuring cup. Use a spatula to press and extract as much juice as possible. Discard or reserve the pulp for another use (smoothies, baking, compost). Expected yield after straining is about 120–150 ml.

Combine & Finish

5

Return the strained juice to a clean container. Stir in the 30 ml aloe vera gel until fully incorporated. Taste the mixture and add up to 1 tsp raw honey or agave if you prefer sweeter; stir until dissolved.

6

If the shot is too intense, dilute with up to 60 ml cold filtered water or add a few ice cubes and stir. Add a pinch of sea salt if desired to round flavors and provide trace minerals.

7

Chill briefly (5–10 minutes) or serve over a single small ice cube. Pour into 2–3 small shot glasses (each about 60–90 ml) or one larger 180 ml serving, depending on preference.

Storage & Notes

8

Consume immediately for maximum freshness and nutrient density. Alternatively store in a sealed glass bottle in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours; shake well before serving. Fresh beet juice may stain—use glass and rinse tools promptly.
