Method

For the cocktail

  1. 1

    Warm and build

Preheat the serving mug by filling it with hot water and letting it sit 30 seconds; discard the water. Add the spruce tip liqueur, Maker's Mark bourbon, fresh lemon juice, and honey syrup to the warmed mug.

  2. 2

    Add heat

Pour 3 oz of near-boiling hot water into the mug, stir gently with a bar spoon for 10–15 seconds to fully dissolve and integrate the honey syrup and liqueurs.

  3. 3

    Garnish and infuse

Add one cinnamon stick to the mug and place the lemon wheel on top or on the rim. Optionally float 2–3 fresh spruce tips for aroma. Let the cinnamon steep for 1–2 minutes to release warm spice notes before serving.

  4. 4

    Serve

Serve hot, with the cinnamon stick left in the drink as a stirrer. Advise guests that flavors will continue to meld as it cools; stir before sipping if left to sit.
