Whiskey & Glassware

Optional Enhancements

Method

Whiskey & Glassware

  1. 1

    Chill and prepare glass

Place a rocks glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water to cool while you prepare the whiskey. Discard the ice water just before pouring.

  2. 2

    Add ice

Place a single large ice cube or sphere into the chilled rocks glass. A larger cube melts more slowly, preserving the whiskey's flavor.

  3. 3

    Pour whiskey

Measure and pour 2 oz WhistlePig 12 Old World Rye over the large ice cube.

  4. 4

    Optional bitters

If using, add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters to the whiskey and gently stir one or two turns to combine. This adds aromatic complexity without overpowering the rye.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 5

    Express orange peel

Hold an orange peel (about 1 x 2 inches) over the glass with the outer (zesty) side down. Give it a firm twist to express oils onto the surface of the whiskey, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the glass.

  2. 6

    Optional cherry garnish

If desired, add one Luxardo cherry on a pick and rest it on the rim or drop it into the glass for a touch of sweetness and visual appeal.

  3. 7

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the spice-forward rye character, toasted oak, and the citrus oils from the expressed orange peel.
