Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F) with sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Mix until the dough forms a ball. Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let it Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Topping and Assembly
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) while the dough is rising.
- 6
Shape the Dough
Once dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it back to a floured surface. Roll it out or stretch it into a circular shape to fit your pizza stone or baking sheet.
- 7
Add Sauce and Cheese
Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Tear the mozzarella into pieces and distribute them evenly over the sauce.
- 8
Season and Bake
Drizzle with olive oil, season with salt and black pepper to taste. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 9
Add Basil
Once out of the oven, top the pizza with fresh basil leaves. Let it cool slightly before slicing.
