Calamari
Marinara Sauce
Method
Preparation of Marinara Sauce
- 1
- 2
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and chopped basil to the saucepan. Stir well and let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning to taste. Keep warm until serving.
Preparation of Calamari
- 3
Prepare the Calamari
Cut the cleaned calamari into rings about 1/2 inch thick and set aside.
- 4
Make the Breading
In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and paprika. In another bowl, pour the buttermilk.
- 5
Bread the Calamari
Dip each calamari ring into the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then coat with the flour mixture. Place the breaded calamari on a plate.
- 6
Fry the Calamari
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C). Fry the calamari in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot, for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Serving

Serve
