Onion Rings

Method

Preparation

1

Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

2

Make the Batter

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Gradually add the cold water, stirring until the batter is smooth and thick.

3

Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

4

Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing the excess to drip off.

5

Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the coated onion rings in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown, turning occasionally.

6

Drain and Serve

Remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm with ranch dressing.
