Method

Full English Breakfast - Main Components

  1. 1

    Preheat and prepare ingredients

Remove bacon, sausages, and black pudding from the fridge to come closer to room temperature (10–15 minutes). Rinse mushrooms briefly and pat dry; halve or slice tomatoes; drain baked beans if desired but keep the liquid if preferred.

  2. 2

    Cook sausages

Heat a large frying pan or skillet over medium heat and add 1 tsp vegetable oil. Add the sausages in a single layer and cook for about 12–15 minutes, turning frequently so they brown evenly and are cooked through (internal temperature 70°C/160°F). Reduce heat if they brown too quickly. Once done, transfer to a plate and keep warm tented with foil.

  3. 3

    Fry bacon

Using the same pan (wipe excess fat if necessary but leave some for flavor), add the streaky bacon in a single layer over medium–high heat. Fry 2–4 minutes per side until crisped to your liking. Transfer bacon to a warm plate and keep warm.

  4. 4

    Cook black pudding (if using)

Add 1 tsp butter to the pan and reduce heat to medium. Slice the black pudding into 1–1.5 cm rounds and fry 1.5–2 minutes per side until crisp at the edges and warmed through. Remove and keep warm with bacon and sausages.

  5. 5

    Sauté mushrooms

In a separate smaller frying pan, melt 1 tbsp butter over medium heat. Add mushrooms, season with a pinch of salt and pepper, and cook 5–7 minutes until they release their juices and become golden. Stir occasionally. Keep warm.

  6. 6

    Pan-roast tomatoes

In the mushroom pan (push mushrooms to one side or remove), add 1 tsp olive oil and place tomato halves cut-side down. Season lightly with salt and pepper and cook 2–3 minutes until slightly caramelized; then flip and cook 1 minute more. Keep with mushrooms.

  7. 7

    Warm baked beans

Pour baked beans into a small saucepan and gently heat over low–medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 5–8 minutes until hot. Keep covered on low heat.

  8. 8

    Toast bread

Toast bread slices to your desired browning in a toaster or under a grill. Butter lightly if desired and keep warm.

  9. 9

    Fry eggs (final assembly)

Use a clean nonstick skillet, add 1 tsp butter and heat over medium. Crack eggs into the pan and cook to preference: sunny-side up 3–4 minutes until whites set; or flip after 2 minutes and cook an additional 30–60 seconds for over-easy. Season with salt and pepper.

Pan & Seasoning

  1. 10

Throughout cooking, adjust heat to avoid burning. Use butter and small amounts of oil to get good browning on mushrooms, black pudding, and tomatoes. Keep salt and pepper measurements approximate and season individual items lightly just before or during cooking.

Garnish & Serving

  1. 11

Arrange warmed sausages, bacon, black pudding (if using), mushrooms, tomatoes, eggs, baked beans, and toast on each plate. Sprinkle chopped parsley over mushrooms and eggs for freshness. Serve immediately with HP sauce or ketchup on the side.
