Method
Espresso base
Brew espresso
Brew two shots (approx. 60 ml) of espresso using an espresso machine or strong stovetop method. If you don't have espresso, use 60 ml of very strong brewed coffee. Pour the espresso into a small cup and set aside.
If making an iced latte, allow the espresso to cool for 1–2 minutes then combine with 60 ml hot water to temper if desired. For hot lattes, keep espresso hot and proceed to steaming milk step.
Milk and foam
Froth milk (for iced latte)
If making iced or cold lattes, froth 1 cup cold milk with a handheld frother or small French press until slightly aerated, about 20–30 seconds. Keep chilled.
Sweeteners & flavorings
In a mug or glass, add 2 teaspoons simple syrup and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (and 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup if using). Pour the hot or cooled espresso over the syrups and stir until fully combined. Taste and adjust sweetness (add up to 1 more tsp syrup if desired).
Cold frappe components
Make a cold frappe (blended)
For a blended frappe: in a blender combine 1 cup cold brewed coffee, 1 cup coarsely crushed ice, 2 tablespoons heavy cream (optional for richness), and 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup if using. Blend on high until smooth and frothy, about 20–30 seconds. Taste and add 1–2 teaspoons simple syrup if you want it sweeter. Pour into a chilled tall glass.
Assemble iced latte (not blended)
Fill a glass with ice cubes, pour the sweetened espresso over the ice, then add cold frothed milk. Stir gently to combine and top with reserved milk foam or a tablespoon of whipped cream.
Garnish & serving
Clean your steam wand/frother immediately after use and enjoy. Adjust milk:coffee ratio to personal preference; the recipes above yield a balanced 1:2 to 1:3 coffee-to-milk ratio depending on hot vs iced vs blended style.
