Basic Fruit Slushie Base

Method

Basic Fruit Slushie Base

1

Measure and prepare

Gather frozen mixed berries (3 cups) and frozen mango chunks (1 cup). Measure out 1 cup of ice cubes and 1 cup of cold water. Have sugar or simple syrup and lemon juice ready.

2

Add ingredients to blender

Place the frozen berries, frozen mango, ice cubes, cold water, granulated sugar (or simple syrup), and fresh lemon juice into a high-speed blender. Add the vanilla extract if using.

3

Pulse then blend

Start by pulsing 4–6 times to break up large frozen chunks. Then blend on high for 30–60 seconds until a smooth, slushy consistency forms. If the mixture is too thick, add up to 1/4 cup more cold water and blend again. If too thin, add a few more ice cubes or 1/4 cup additional frozen fruit and pulse to thicken.

4

Taste and adjust sweetness/acid

Taste the slushie and adjust sweetness or acidity: add up to 1–2 tablespoons more sugar or simple syrup (or 1–2 tablespoons honey/agave) if too tart, or 1 teaspoon more lemon juice if it needs brightness. Blend briefly (5–10 seconds) after any adjustment.

Optional Variations & Garnishes

5

Creamier variation

For a creamier texture, stop the blender after the slushie is formed and add 1/2 cup plain or coconut yogurt. Pulse twice and blend 10–15 seconds until fully incorporated.

6

Alcoholic variation

For adult drinks, add 2 tablespoons rum or vodka to the blended slushie and stir gently or pulse once to combine. Do not over-blend to avoid liquefying too much.

7

Sparkling top

To add fizz, pour the blended slushie into serving glasses leaving 1/2 inch headroom and gently top each with sparkling water or club soda (about 2–4 tablespoons per glass). Stir gently once with a spoon to combine.

8

Garnish and serve

Divide the slushie among 4 chilled glasses. Garnish each with a lime slice and 2 fresh mint leaves. Serve immediately with a straw. If serving later, store in the freezer for up to 1 hour and re-blend briefly before serving.
