Beverage

Glass garnish (optional)

Method

Prepare glass

  1. 1

    Chill and fill

If possible, pre-chill a glass in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes. Fill the chilled glass with 4–6 medium ice cubes, leaving room for the soda to be poured without overflowing.

  2. 2

If you prefer less dilution, use fewer or larger ice cubes; crushed ice will chill faster but dilute the drink more quickly.

Pour soda

  1. 3

Open the can of chilled Coca-Cola carefully. Tilt the glass slightly and slowly pour the Coca-Cola down the side of the glass to preserve carbonation and reduce foaming.

  2. 4

Stop pouring when the liquid reaches about 1 cm (1/2 inch) below the rim to avoid spills and give room for garnish.

Garnish and serve

  1. 5

If using, squeeze the lime wedge lightly over the top of the drink to add a hint of citrus, then drop the wedge into the glass.

  2. 6

Optionally, rest a lemon slice on the rim or drop a maraschino cherry into the drink for a classic diner-style presentation.

  3. 7

Serve immediately with a straw or stirrer and enjoy while cold.
